Mrs. Donna Francine Barber

On October 5, 2022, Donna Francine Barber of Mims, FL passed away at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma (skin cancer). She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed. Donna was born to Jane Joy Ballenger and Donald Freestone in 1952. She was later adopted by her stepfather, Frederick Andersen. She was born in Coral Gables, FL and spent most of her life in Brevard County. Donna’s family meant the world to her. She loved spending time with her kids and their families. She was so proud of all of them and never missed a chance to let people know. Donna liked to travel, loved the Lord, cared for all people, had a heart for all animals, and enjoyed driving fast. And she was known for her affinity for pink flamingoes. For the last 25 years of her life, Donna worked for United Way of Brevard County. Not only was she the Office/HR manager and Executive assistant, but she was also the case manager for many families in need of critical and basic needs like food, housing, and utility assistance. Many, many lives were touched by the noble work she did. Donna is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Darrell Barber. She is survived by her children, William Windham of Valdosta, GA and Shelley Hoffert (Scott) of Bethlehem, PA; sister Nancy Belflower (Billy) of Mims, FL; brothers Owen Andersen of Titusville, FL and Norman Freestone (Kelly) of Live Oak, FL; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as countless family members she loved through marriage and Christ. Donna was a huge fan of the ocean, cruising, sailing, scuba diving and anything to do with water life. Unfortunately, her 45-plus year battle with skin cancer kept her away from what she enjoyed so much. For that reason, her family will be honoring her wishes and burying her remains at sea as part of the Eternal Reefs program. Her reef placement and dedication will take place next year. A small celebration of life was held with family on October 14th in Titusville, FL. The faith, hope, and love that she shared with all who knew her won’t come to an end with her death.
