Mr. Leon Joseph Dietzenbach

Leon Joseph Dietzenbach, 74, passed away peacefully on June 13th, 2023 at his home in Palm Bay, FL surrounded by family and continued on to his next great adventure. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23rd at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA starting at 9:30am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hawkeye First Responders or to the St. Lucas Historical Society. Leon was born on May, 21st 1949 in Iowa to Herbert and Mildred (Croatt) Dietzenbach. He was the 4th of 8 siblings who grew up on a farm near St. Lucas. Leon was and always will be a farm boy at heart. His roots were entrenched in that rich Iowa soil, although he lived many miles away in Florida in his retirement years. Leon proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1973. He spent the majority of his service overseas in Australia and aboard the USS Chicago during the Vietnam era. On July 29th, 1972 Leon was united in marriage to Lois Bulgren in St. Lucas, Iowa. Together they raised three daughters, Rachel, Sarah and Amanda, in the town of Hawkeye, Iowa where they were able to enjoy the benefits of living in a close knit and caring community. Leon was employed at Citizen’s Savings Bank in Hawkeye for many years as well as starting his own Real Estate business. He took great pride in serving his community and volunteered countless hours in many capacities. He enjoyed leadership roles, but had no problem getting his hands dirty to help improve and enhance the town in which he lived and worked. Leon was a true family man. He loved spending time with his children and their spouses but found special joy in the time he had with his grandchildren. He enjoyed nature, hikes and picnics by the river, reminiscing of days on the farm, building and crafting beautiful wood work, gardening, and especially traveling around the world with his wife, Lois. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Mildred Dietzenbach. Left to enjoy memories of his life and love are his wife, Lois of Palm Bay, FL, his three daughters, their spouses and his grandchildren; Rachel (Michael) Misnick of Boise, ID, their three children, Taylor, Raeanna and Alex; Sarah (Michael) Comoletti of Palm Bay, FL and their two children Maddox and Madelyn, and Amanda (Danny) Hostetler of Arlington, IA. He is also survived by four brothers and three sisters as well as many nieces and nephews.
