Mr. Julian Jones
June 18, 1932 - February 28, 2018
Julian Ismay Jones, 85, passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2018 in Merritt Island, Florida. He was born June 18, 1932 in West Palm Beach, Florida. A trucker at heart, Julian learned to drive a pick-up truck around his family farm when he was 9-years old. He went on to log over a million miles driving semi-trucks over his 18 year career. He has hauled everything from roof trusses to rockets, ice cream to napalm. After retiring from the road in 1976 he went on to open City News and Books in downtown Melbourne. He continued to share his love of the open road and travel by becoming the go-to destination for travel guides, road maps, and waterway navigation maps. Customers would come from as far as Orlando to visit the store for their specialty charts and maps. He and Bobbie operated City News for over twenty years before retiring to Merritt Island. Julian served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. A true patriot, he was always very proud of serving on behalf of the country he loved. Julian loved mystifying people with his magic tricks, exercising and general feats of strength, sharing stories of his adventures, woodworking and tinkering around the house, and spending time with his family and friends.
