Ms. Lucille Ryczer

Lucille Ann Ryczer, also known to friends as “Lou” was born Lucille Decker in Bridgeport, Connecticut on December 17, 1942 and then became Lucille Ryczer in her sophomore year at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut when her foster parents adopted Lou. Lou passed away peacefully in her home in Rockledge, Florida on April 29, 2018 at the age of 75. Lou is lovingly remembered by her dearest family and friends. She will remain alive in our hearts: Shari, Jason, and Gabriel Lichau, Steven Matthews, Rhonda Lakes, Cole Wilson, Polly Gardiner, Mark Miceli, and many friends at Hope UCC and other places. Lou was raised Catholic. After Lou’s Wilbur Cross High School graduation in New Haven, Connecticut she entered a convent in Torresdale, Pennsylvania run by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and stayed for two and a half years. Lou continued to serve Christ all her life and attended Episcopal churches as well as independent churches. Lou became a faithful congregant and member to Hope United Church of Christ in May of 2017. After leaving the convent Lou became a telephone operator for 4 years in New Haven. From 1965 to 1969 Lou worked as a recreation specialist at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, D.C. where worked as an obstetrician’s assistant. From 1974 to 1977 Lou served in the Army as a military police officer. She was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison which used to be an army base in Indiana northwest of Indianapolis. For 2 years after that, Lou was a Corrections Officer at a women’s prison in Connecticut. From 1980 to 1984 Lou attended Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT, and graduated with a major in Psychology and a minor Sociology. Following receiving her degree, Lou worked for ten years, 1985-1995, at Mansfield Training School in Storrs, CT where she was medically retired after suffering injury. Lou did many things after her retirement including cooking, fishing, and writing short stories and poems. Lou was also a talented artist using charcoal and colored pencils to draw breathtaking landscapes and still life images. Lou volunteered her time at Wuestoff Hospital in Viera, Florida. Lou loved to take road trips especially if she got to enjoy a meal with her friends at her favorite eateries. Lou loved animals of all kind, dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, and watching them truly brought contentment to Lou’s life. She had a special connection with all the pets in her life.
